I don’t think that the difference between American and British English should matter if its about a word like ‘defence’ or ‘defense’ where only one letter is changed. I’m sure most people wouldn’t even notice the difference. It should only matter when the difference would become irritating to read such as ‘tyre’ or ‘tire’ and ‘storeys’ or ‘stories’. To me as an American, the differences look blatantly wrong and make the writing mean less; however, i will continue to use them for the sake of pretentiousness. :p

It’s true that children learn languages faster than adults but I hate when adults use that as an argument when they are lazy to learn.

Yes, I agree with David!! The Chinese script is the weakest point of the language! I see numerous people in India who want to learn it, but given its script most people opt for other languages.
As for Spanish and English I think English will still lead for some time to come.
